
Maya Payne Smart, the president of Ralston Payne Enterprises LLC, is a versatile writer and editor with experience crafting everything from marketing, public relations and development documents to journalistic pieces for consumer and trade publications.
She founded Ralston Payne Enterprises as a part-time copywriting service in 2003 just a year after earning an undergraduate degree in Social Studies from Harvard University. She went on to earn a master's degree in editorial journalism from the Medill School of Journalism at Northwestern University in 2005. She relaunched Ralston Payne Enterprises as a full-time venture in August 2006.
Mrs. Smart has written articles, infographics and how-to guides for clients including Barnes & Noble, Crain Communications and Imagination Publishing.
She also has published more than 200 news articles, entrepreneur profiles and business trend stories in consumer and trade publications including Black Enterprise, Chicago Defender, Crain's Cleveland Business, Daily Herald, Daily Southtown and Northwest Indiana Times.
She is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists.
She resides in Clemson, South Carolina.
